An Xiao’s work has been published in the Spring 2008 edition of Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, the leading journal of Buddhism in the West, with a readership of about 200,000 internationally. Departure, 2007, an image of birds taking flight in Coney Island, is featured alongside poet and essayist Andrew Schelling’s haiku, inspired by the photo.
Departure is easily one of An Xiao’s most popular photos from 2007, having been featured with Tenri Gallery at the Asian Contemporary Art Fair and the Slocumb Galleries’ Positive/Negative 23 exhibition, juried by Antoine Guerrero of P.S.1 MoMA. It comes from her larger series on Coney Island, a portion of which has also been published in the Brooklyn Rail. She is grateful to have the opportunity to bring this piece, a strong example of her Zen-influenced streethaiku photography, to a wider audience.
Many thanks to editor Sarah Todd for facilitating the publication. Tricycle can be found in bookstores and newsstands.
