Coney Island
by an xiao studio

In 2007, I fell in love with Coney Island, and I kept going back to photograph it. To me, it captured a slice of Americana preserved in time, as if it had never changed. At the time I discovered it, the entire area was threatened with demolition in favor of new developments. It was my introduction to the idea of a changing city, of the conflict between historic preservation and commercial interests, an interest that would be channeled into my other urban explorations. Some of these images were featured in the Brooklyn Rail.
